Do you look in the mirror and find that your face appears more tired and older on the outside than you feel on the inside? If sagging skin and wrinkles are causing you grief, it may be time to consider getting a facelift to have your outside look as young as you feel on the inside.
As opposed to using dermal fillers to fill the sagging spots of the face piece by piece, a facelift has the opportunity to fix your entire face in one simple procedure. Some of the problems a facelift can solve include:
- Deepening of the nasolabial folds extending from the nose to the corner of the mouth
- Frown lines (or marionette lines) extending down from the corner of the mouth
- Mid-face sagging with a hollowed-out appearance in the middle cheeks
- Loose, sagging skin beneath the chin and jaw
- Eyebrow droopiness
- Overhanging skin of the upper eyelid
- And lower eyelid bags
Facelifts are also great companion pieces to other procedures done on the face. During your consultation with our staff, ask how you can add additional procedures to your facelift. Three of the most popular add-ons are brow lifts, eyelid surgery, and facial fat transfer.
A brow lift can remove that permanent sour, tired look on your face with a tighter, more energetic-looking appearance. Eyelid surgery will remove the excess skin and fat around the eyes to eliminate the baggy, tired look of age. Lastly, a facial fat transfer uses fat from your abdomen or thighs and places it in the face to maintain a healthy, plump look.
In this clip, Dr. Scott describes how facelift surgery can help to reverse the visible effects of aging.*
The process begins with your initial consultation. During this consultation, we will talk about the steps you can take before your facelift to provide the best results. This includes undergoing a complete medical examination and discontinuing any medication or herbal supplements that may increase bleeding.
Surgery generally takes around 3 – 4 hours, unless additional procedures are added on top of it. The procedure is done in an outpatient facility and involves a small incision around the ear. Dr. Scott will then remove fat and reshape the face around the problem areas. Deeper connective tissue and muscles are lifted, and the skin of the face and neck is re-draped over the uplifted contours and excess skin is trimmed away. All of this results in a tighter face that can take years off of your appearance.
Some swelling and mild bruising is normal after a facelift and usually subsides within 7 to 10 days. Most patients experience very little pain following a facelift procedure. You can further extend your long-lasting results with life-long sun protection and a healthy lifestyle and a good skin care regimen.
