Individuals often seek a plastic surgical evaluation after repeatedly being told by friends and co-workers “how tired they appear.” A tired appearance often occurs due to skin folding or “hooding” of the upper eyelids and/or bags under the lower eyelids. At The Plastic Surgery Center, we offer blepharoplasty procedures, or eyelid surgeries, to significantly improve these conditions.

UPPER BLEPHAROPLASTY
An upper blepharoplasty removes fatty tissue and excess skin to create a more alert appearance. This procedure lifts the upper eyelid and reduces the appearance of hooded lids to create a refreshed appearance.
LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY
This procedure is often used to reduce and improve the appearance of bags under the eyes. A lower blepharoplasty is performed by removing or repositioning fatty tissue under the eyes to create a smoother appearance. During this procedure the lower eyelid skin will be tightened and any excess skin will be removed and the muscles will be tightened to create a more youthful appearance.
WHAT IS A BLEPHAROPLASTY PROCEDURE?
A blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to create a refreshed, more alert appearance by reducing under-eye bags and improving the appearance of hooded upper eyelids. There are two types of blepharoplasty procedures, an upper blepharoplasty and a lower blepharoplasty. These two types of eyelid surgeries can be performed separately or together to achieve a comprehensive facial rejuvenation result.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?
Eyelid surgery can often be performed under local anesthesia. The incisions are placed within the natural creases of the upper eyelids and just below the lash line of the lower eyelids. Excess skin and fat are removed, and the incisions are closed with tiny sutures. Eyelid surgery causes very little discomfort. This procedure typically takes between one and two hours.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PERIOD LIKE?
You should plan to take one to two weeks away from work or school to allow any swelling and bruising associated with the procedure diminish. Sutures are typically removed within 5 days and mild swelling and bruising will usually resolve within 7 to 10 days. We recommend patients avoid any strenuous activity for approximately three weeks following the procedure.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BLEPHAROPLASTY?
Eyelid surgery is an option for men and women who are in good health and are interested in reducing hooded lids and restoring a refreshed, “more awake” appearance. During your initial consultation, Dr. Scott will review your overall health, medical history, and desired results and determine if this is the appropriate treatment for you.
